Joe Hart would jump at the chance to hold contract talks with Leeds United, according to reports from Football Insider.

Leeds are expected to be on the lookout for a new senior goalkeeper in the summer transfer window, with Kiko Casilla’s future at Elland Road up in the air after racism charges against him were proved earlier in 2020.

Illan Meslier, currently on loan from Lorient, is serving as the club’s first choice and his move could well be made permanent in the summer.

Yet, there’s a potential vacancy for another senior goalkeeper to arrive at Elland Road, with Football Insider revealing the Hart – currently of Burnley – would be open to contract talks with Leeds and willing to take a pay cut to make the journey from Lancashire to Yorkshire.

Hart is a two-time Premier League winner and ex-England international, but his career has nosedived since Pep Guardiola’s snub at Manchester City.

Since leaving City, Hart has had spells with Torino and West Ham before ending up at Turf Moor with Burnley, who he has made 24 appearances for across all competitions over the last two seasons.

His last appearance for Sean Dyche came in January’s FA Cup defeat to Norwich City, with the goalkeeper well out of favour.

The Verdict

Whilst you can see why Hart would be willing to hold talks with Leeds this summer, you question whether he’s the type of goalkeeper that Marcelo Bielsa would want to replace Casilla.

Casilla is a goalkeeper that’s good with his feet (so is Meslier), whilst Hart was axed at City for his distribution not being up to Guardiola’s standards.

With that in mind, you imagine Leeds would be assessing their options in this department, rather than jumping at the chance of signing Hart, despite the 33-year-old’s profile.
