Sheffield United are edging closer to completing the loan signing of Oliver Norwood from Brighton and Hove Albion.

According to reliable football journalist Pete O'Rourke, Norwood is undergoing a medical at Sheffield United ahead of his loan move to Bramall Lane.

The 27-year-old is down the pecking order at Brighton and is set for another loan spell after spending last season with Fulham on a temporary arrangement.

The former Manchester United academy product has won promotion to the Premier League in consecutive years, helping both Brighton and Fulham back to the top flight.

During his career, the Northern Ireland international has also represented Carlisle United, Scunthorpe United and Coventry City on loan, as well as having permanent spells with Huddersfield Town and Reading.

With over 300 senior appearances under his belt, he has vast experience in the Football League despite the fact that he is only 27.

Norwood is seen as a replacement for Lee Evans, who joined Wigan Athletic on a loan to buy agreement.

The Verdict

Norwood is an upgrade on Evans given his Championship experience, know-how of winning promotion and ball-playing ability.

The central midfielder is in the prime of his career and is a reliable Championship performer.

A midfield trio of Paul Coutts (when fit), John Fleck and Norwood is going to be exciting for Sheffield United fans to watch.
