Former Chelsea and Manchester City midfielder Frank Lampard is yet to start his managerial career but based on his television work as a pundit, where he comes across as smart and articulate, you would not bet against him being a success when he does.
We might be able to find out as Lampard is in talks with Oxford United, who sit 10th in League One and sacked Pep Clotet yesterday, about taking over the reigns there, according to the Sun.
Lampard was considered for the role when Clotet was appointed in the summer, having left his previous role as Leeds United assistant manager alongside Garry Monk.
However, he wanted to focus on getting his coaching badges and now he has had time to do that and also work alongside the Chelsea Under-18s, he is back in the frame.
It feels slightly soon but at least a player from the top of the game is willing to get his hands dirty and move down the leagues to get the experience required.
It will stand him in far better stead as a manager than doing what Ryan Giggs is doing, and trying to shortcut his way in at the top without learning the ropes lower down.
