Premier League side Watford have expressed an interest in signing midfielder Matt Phillips from Sky Bet Championship side Queens Park Rangers, according to the Daily Mail.
The Hornets are looking to strengthen their side after a good first half of the season in the top-flight, and the QPR winger has caught the eye of Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores after his displays for the Hoops this season.
It is believed that Premier League rivals AFC Bournemouth and Newcastle United have also enquired about Phillips’ availability, which may promote a bidding war between the three sides, with it believed that the Hoops want £10 million for the 24-year-old.
The Scottish winger has scored five goals this season in 28 games – his latest goal coming in QPR’s 3-0 win at Rotherham United yesterday.
Watford are currently 12th in the Premier League, ten points clear of the relegation zone, and they are beginning a recruitment to make sure they stay well out of trouble.
QPR manager Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink may be reluctant to see Phillips leave, especially following the departure of star striker Charlie Austin to Southampton yesterday.
QPR picked up their first win under Hasselbaink yesterday against Rotherham, a result which moved them up to 15th in the Championship table.
