Premier League sides Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, who’s currently on loan at Preston North End, according to the Sun.
The 21-year-old appears to have caught the eye of Villa boss Tim Sherwood after some impressive performances for Preston, with Villa scouts keeping tabs on Pickford’s progress at Deepdale.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is also rumoured to be interested, with the North London club tracking his development at the Championship side, who joined on loan from Sunderland earlier this summer.
The England Under-21 international has started well at Deepdale, keeping three clean sheets in five games for Simon Grayson’s team, who currently sit 17th in the Championship with five points from five games.
Despite his tender years, Pickford has picked up a mass of Football League experience, having appeared on loan for Burton Albion, Carlisle United, Bradford City, and now Preston North End.
The highly-rated Sunderland goalkeeper has also made an impression on the international scene, representing England at every level, from the U16s through to the U20s.
Pickford’s loan deal with Preston will expire at the end of the 2015/16 season, which would suggest that either Villa or Spurs will have to wait until then to land the player, with a January move unlikely.
Pickford will next be in action for Preston when they host promotion-chasing Derby County at Deepdale on Saturday the 12th September.
