Premier League West Brom are interested in Barnsley defender Marc Roberts, according to respected journalist Alan Nixon.
The big defender has been an integral part of the Barnsley side over the last couple of seasons, and last term forged an excellent partnership with Alfie Mawson, who has since been sold to Swansea City.
Roberts has been a regular once again this term, and with West Brom in the market for a new central defender, Roberts could well fit the bill for Tony Pulis’s men.
Barnsley signed Roberts from non-league Halifax Town two seasons ago, and he has gone on to become one of the star players for the Reds, who have made a habit of buying cheap from the lower leagues and selling on for good profit.
With Barnsley having just sold Sam Winnall and Conor Hourihane also looking likely to leave in the transfer window, the loss of Roberts could be a bitter blow to the Reds as they look to first secure Championship football for next season, and then see how far up the table they can finish.
Barnsley lost to Fulham yesterday to lose ground on those in the top six.
