Premier League goalkeeper rejects loan move to QPR

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Alex McCarthy has rejected a loan move to former club QPR in a move which would have seen Rob Green move in the opposite direction, according to the Times.

The 26-year-old only moved to Selhurst Park in the summer but he has seen his game time restricted to just six appearances due to Alan Pardew’s preference to use Wayne Hennessey.

In his six games for the Eagles this season, the former Reading goalkeeper has conceded seven goals but with his first-team opportunities lacking, QPR thought they could tempt the goalkeeper back to Loftus Road.

Former England goalkeeper Green would have moved to Palace in the opposite direction as Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink looks to get rid of the 35-year-old.

Should he play 30 games this season, Green will automatically be handed a contract extension but the former Burton manager now favours Alex Smithies over the former West Ham and Norwich goalkeeper.

The Hoops currently sit fifteenth in the Championship after a disappointing season following their relegation from the Premier League last term.
