Premier League duo targeting Brighton centre-back

Premier League sides Crystal Palace and Norwich City are interested in a move for Brighton and Hove Albion centre-back Lewis Dunk, according to the Sun.

The 24-year-old has appeared 35 times in the league for the Seagulls this season, the latest of which coming in their 5-0 thrashing of struggling Fulham on Friday. He has also chipped in with some crucial goals in recent weeks, most notably the winner as Chris Hughton’s side came from behind to win at Birmingham City two weeks ago.

He has been an integral part of the third best defence in the Sky Bet Championship this season – only leaders Middlesbrough and fourth place Hull City have conceded less – and, unsurprisingly, he is attracting interest from clubs higher up the Football League pyramid.

The Sun believes that Palace boss Alan Pardew is an admirer of the defender, and could make a move if Brighton fail to achieve promotion this season.

However, they could face a battle from Norwich City, although it is uncertain what league the Canaries will be in next season after a crushing 3-0 defeat to fellow strugglers Sunderland yesterday dragged them back into the relegation mix.

Dunk, who made his debut for the Seagulls just under five years ago, will no doubt strengthen both teams’ defensive options, although whether he is ready to make the step-up, and indeed leave Brighton, remains to be seen.

In the mean time, he will try to help his side achieve automatic promotion to the Premier League. Hughton’s men currently sit third in the division, two points behind Burnley, and host mid-table QPR on Tuesday night.
