The Premier League has unanimously voted to resume contact training as we move toward the resumption of the 2019/20 campaign, which looks good news for Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion's promotion hopes.

It has been reported that the English top flight is moving toward a return in June, with the Championship understood to be optimistic it can follow suit.

There have been claims from some Premier League clubs that relegation should be removed if the season cannot be completed in full and that Championship sides should not be promoted if they do not complete the current campaign on the pitch.

That looked as if it could cause issues for Leeds and West Brom, who are the frontrunners to secure promotion from to the Premier League this term.

However, this recent decision is a significant step forward toward the potential return of the Premier League and, therefore, a boost for their hopes of promotion.

It also sets a precedent for Championship clubs, who returned to training around a week after top flight sides and may look to come to a similar decision soon.

The Verdict

You feel while the possibility of ending the season early remains, there will be objections raised over promotion and relegation, meaning Leeds and West Brom will likely feel some concern about their end-of-season hopes.

This decision is a step toward the return of the season and, therefore, should ease their worries somewhat and boost their promotion hopes.

It will be interesting to see whether we get a similar decision from the EFL or Championship clubs over the next week or so.
