Burnley are continuing to weigh up a move for Matty Phillips this summer after showing an initial interest in the West Bromwich Albion winger.

A report from the Burnley Express has linked Burnley with a move for Phillips, but the Premier League outfit are yet to firm up their interest in offering the West Brom star a route back to the top-flight.

West Brom are preparing for life back in the Sky Bet Championship, with Phillips still a member of Darren Moore’s squad ahead of next season.

Phillips has been with West Brom since the summer of 2016, when he completed a move to the Hawthorns from QPR.

The 27-year-old has made 57 Premier League appearances for the Baggies across two seasons, as well as adding a further six appearances in the domestic cup competitions.

Last year, Phillips made 30 Premier League appearances, scoring two goals and assisting twice, as West Brom struggled to make an impact in the Premier League and eventually lost their top-flight status.

West Brom are fighting off interest in Jay Rodriguez and Craig Dawson, with Burnley also keen to add that duo to Sean Dyche’s squad ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

Burnley will have to pay more than their initial £25m bid.

The Verdict

Phillips struggled last season at West Brom, but there is no denying that the 27-year-old is still a good winger.

He would add squad depth at Turf Moor, with Dyche potentially the right manager to help Phillips back to his best next season.

It will be interesting to see if Burnley firm up their interest in Phillips, particularly with another West Brom duo on their radar.
