Versatile Middlesbrough midfielder Marcus Tavernier is being eyed up by newly-promoted Premier League side Bournemouth, who are set to offer in excess of £10 million for his services, according to Football Insider.

The 23-year-old could be on the move from Teesside following a solid season for Boro in the Championship - in his 44 appearances he scored five times and also contributed with five assists.

Tavernier mainly operated in the centre of midfield for Middlesbrough this past season, however he occasionally featured as a left wing-back and is also comfortable operating as a winger.

His performances have not gone unnoticed, as Football League World exclusively revealed last month that the likes of Brighton & Hove Albion, Southampton and Wolves - as well as Bournemouth - were keeping tabs on Tavernier.

Now, the Cherries are set to firm their interest up on the midfielder following their promotion from the second tier with an eight-figure offer.

Tavernier has one year remaining on his contract at the Riverside Stadium, so this summer could potentially be Boro's last opportunity to secure a fee for the academy graduate.

The Verdict

If the rumours are to be believed then Boro could be fielding big offers for a lot of players this summer, with the likes of Dael Fry and Isaiah Jones also attracting interest.

Tavernier though is someone that could be looking at the bright lights of the Premier League immediately - especially with just one year remaining on his contract.

There's obviously no guarantee that Boro will be pushing for promotion this coming season, so despite being an academy graduate, Tavernier could look to secure a switch to the top flight as soon as he can.

Boro though will always hold out for the right fee - the money they're going to get for Djed Spence means that they can perhaps hold out for more when it comes to Tavernier, but Bournemouth are a club that he should get game-time at, so it could be a realistic move.
