Leeds United target Oli McBurnie will be offered a hefty pay rise by Swansea City as the Welsh club are desperate to keep the young striker, according to the print edition of The Sun (April 22nd, page 63).

Swansea loaned McBurnie out to Barnsley in the January transfer window and he has responded with an impressive tally of eight goals in 13 starts for the Tykes, despite their relegation concerns.

The Scottish Sun recently reported that McBurnie, who is out of contract with Swansea this summer, will turn down a new deal with the Premier League club because he wants to return to his hometown club Leeds.

McBurnie was born in Leeds and played for their youth sides until he was about 14-years-old; he now wants to return to Elland Road.

The 21-year-old is also being tracked by Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County, according to the Scottish Sun, while The Sun today report that Reading have joined the race.

But with a host of Championship clubs pursuing their young talent, Swansea are ready to blow them out of the water by offering McBurnie a big pay rise.

The Swans do not want to lose the Scotland international for compensation and they see him as part of their future.

The Verdict

McBurnie certainly has a bright future and he is definitely worth a punt for any of these Championship clubs for a compensation fee if he does not pen fresh terms with Swansea. The Scotland international needs to be playing games and perhaps he is not going to get that at Swansea. I know that Leeds fans were not so impressed with his display against them on the weekend but he was forced out of position as a left winger - if he plays up front, he is a good Championship forward.
