Having poached Chris Wood from Leeds United last summer, Burnley are set to return to Elland Road this summer in a bid to snap up another one of their players.

According to the print edition of The Sun on Sunday (April 22nd, Goals page 7) via HITC Sport, Burnley want to sign Pontus Jansson from Leeds.

Burnley, who look set to qualify for the Europa League next season, want Jansson to add strength in depth to their defensive ranks.

The Clarets have James Tarkowski and Ben Mee at centre half and this duo have attracted a lot of praise from pundits for their solid and assured performances at the back at Turf Moor this season.

But Sean Dyche wants another centre back to add competition for places with Tarkowski and Mee instead of Kevin Long.

Burnley wish to pip West Ham to the signing of Jansson, who is a regular at the back for Leeds.

The Sweden international joined Leeds on loan from Torino last season and signed a permanent deal with the Championship club despite interest from Southampton last summer.

And although the 27-year-old has not quite been at his best this year, he is still the subject of Premier League interest.

The Verdict

Jansson is a physical centre half who is strong in the air and has shown that he is comfortable with the ball on the ground too. Although he has not had the best year, Burnley and West Ham will be hoping that he can get back to his best if he joins. After poaching Chris Wood and Charlie Taylor from Leeds, Burnley will want to now sign Jansson.
