Tottenham Hotspur are ready to step up their interest in Jack Grealish after Aston Villa owner Dr Tony Xia admitted that the club needed to sell, The London Evening Standard reports.

Aston Villa are currently in financial trouble and they need to sell some of their prize assets to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.

Grealish is one of their top talents and they are holding out for £30m for the 22-year-old, although Tottenham are hoping to prise him away for less.

Spurs are hoping that Aston Villa's current financial state will force them into accepting a lower price for Grealish as they desperately need to raise £40m in transfers.

Grealish is a boyhood Aston Villa fan and while he would love to stay at his local club, he has accepted that he is likely to leave.

The England under-21 international favours a move to Spurs after he picked up three goals and six assists last season for the Villans.

Widely regarded as one of the brightest young attacking midfield talents around, Grealish is now a top priority for Spurs this summer.

The Verdict

Grealish fits Spurs' philosophy and style of play as he is a young, flair player and he is homegrown.

The lively winger has so much skill and his end product is improving so a move to Spurs could see his career rise to the next level.

Aston Villa will struggle to replace his creativity without any funds to bring in new players but they need to sell him because of their financial woes.
