According to the Mirror’s live blog (31/7, 23:47), Huddersfield Town are prepared to meet Barnsley’s £2m valuation of Andy Yiadom.

The right-sided player has been on Town’s radar for large parts of the summer, as David Wagner prepares his squad for their Premier League debut.

Wagner has already seen a £1m bid and a £1.5m bid rejected by Barnsley, but the German is set to meet the £2m valuation set by their Yorkshire rivals, as they look to beat Swansea City to Yiadom’s signature.

Yiadom has just 12-months remaining on his contract at Oakwell, and despite only spending a season with the Tykes, he looks set to be on his way to the Premier League this summer.

The 25-year-old arrived at Barnsley as a free agent last summer from Barnet, and impressed in his debut season in the Sky Bet Championship.

Yiadom made 33 appearances across all competitions for Paul Heckingbottom’s side, including 32 in the Championship, as Barnsley surprised many and strolled to a mid-table finish on their return to the second-tier.

Should Yiadom leave Oakwell this summer, his departure will round off a disappointing summer for Barnsley, who have yet again seen a number of high-profile departures.

Marley Watkins, Josh Scowen and Marc Roberts have all left Oakwell this summer, giving Barnsley’s squad a very different outlook to the one that started last season.

The Verdict

Yiadom’s exit would be another huge blow for Heckingbottom and Barnsley, particularly with the new season fast approaching.

High-profile departures in both Janaury and this summer, has left Heckingbottom with very little quality at his disposal, and he will be desperate to keep hold of Yiadom.

A 4-0 defeat to Rotherham United in the club’s final pre-season friendly will have set the alarm bells ringing at Oakwell, ahead of what is shaping up to be a very difficult second season in the Championship.
