According to an exclusive report by The Sun, Burnley will consider launching a January swoop for Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche is looking to strengthen his defensive options and continue to challenge for the European spots after a successful start to the season at Turf Moor.

The Clarets sold centre half Michael Keane to Everton in the summer for a hefty fee but have not yet replaced the England international.

James Tarkowski and Ben Mee have been reliable performers at the back for Burnley but they have been forced to use Kevin Long when one of the first choice defenders has been unavailable.

Therefore, they will look into signing Worrall this winter.

The Forest academy product is now a regular in the starting line-up at The City Ground and has become of the most dependable players at the back for the mid-table Championship side.

The 20-year-old fits the bill as a young and hungry English player who has proven himself in a lower league and Dyche is very keen on him.

It is believed that Nottingham Forest rate the England under-20 international, who captains his age group, at about £12m.

The Verdict

Nottingham Forest see Joe Worrall as one of their top young players and they have produced a lot of talent from their youth system in recent years.

He would be an excellent addition for most Premier League sides and Forest could not complain if Burnley match their £12m valuation.

But his departure would leave a void at the back which needs filling by whoever comes in as Mark Warburton's successor.
