Huddersfield Town are ready to compete with a number of top Premier League clubs to sign Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke City, according to The Yorkshire Post.

The Terriers are ready to launch a bid for Shaqiri, who is expected to cost £12m.

Champions League duo Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are also interested in the Switzerland international, who is heading to the World Cup in Russia this summer, while Everton, Southampton and West Ham United will provide competition for his signature too.

The former Inter Milan star has been one of the standout players at Stoke over the last few seasons but he could not prevent his side from suffering relegation to the Championship.

A number of clubs are expected to be interested in the diminutive winger, who provides quality service with his left-foot and a few goals too.

The 26-year-old has 15 goals and 15 assists in 92 appearances to his name since moving to Stoke in 2016 but he is unlikely to stay with the Potters following their relegation to the second tier.

Huddersfield have now emerged as shock contenders to sign Shaqiri after staying up against all odds in the top flight last season.

The Verdict

Huddersfield should go all out to sign Shaqiri but I cannot see them landing him if another Premier League club matches their bid.

Shaqiri will probably want to be competing for European football as a minimum and could fancy moves for Spurs or Liverpool over the other teams.

With a cracking left foot, the set-piece specialist is a constant threat when he cuts in from the right-wing and he would be an asset for any Premier League side.
