Brighton and Hove Albion are said to be interested in signing Peterborough United striker Ivan Toney according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The forward has been in impressive form this season with the League One side, as he's scored 26 goals in 39 appearances this term.

It was a campaign that ended in frustration for Toney though, as Peterborough United missed out on a top-six finish in the third tier, after the majority of clubs agreed to curtail this year's campaign early due to off-the-field events.

Toney has also been attracting interest from the likes of Celtic and Rangers in the past, and it'll be an interesting summer transfer window for Peterborough, as they look to keep hold of their star striker.

A move to Brighton and Hove Albion could be a tempting proposition for the forward as well, especially if they're still playing their football in the Premier League.

Graham Potter's side are currently sat 15th in the top-flight, and will be hoping to pull further clear of the relegation zone between now and the remainder of this year's campaign.

Toney does have experience of playing in the Premier League, having been with Newcastle United earlier in his senior career, before moving to Peterborough United in 2018.

The Verdict:

I have my doubts as to whether this would be a wise move for Toney.

He has been brilliant for Peterborough United this season, scoring 26 goals in 39 appearances as they narrowly missed out on promotion into the Championship.

He's clearly more than capable of making the step up to the second tier, but I'm not sure he'd be quite ready to return to the Premier League at this stage of his career.

Toney needs regular minutes to further his development, and I don't think he'd be getting that with Brighton and Hove Albion ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.
