According to Italian media outlet Tutto Mercato Web, Birmingham City midfielder Diego Fabbrini is the subject of interest from Premier League strugglers Sunderland.
Sunderland, who are currently rock bottom of the Premier League and staring relegation in the face, were reportedly set to watch Diego Fabbrini in action for Spezia, who he plays for on loan from Birmingham City.
Fabbrini completed his loan move to Serie B side Spezia in January and Sunderland scouts were apparently watching him as they lost 3-1 to Benevento on the weekend.
The attacking midfielder struggled to settle at Birmingham this season after completing a permanent move in January 2016.
The Italian play maker is currently plying his trade on loan in the second tier of Italian football but he could be set for a sensational return to England with Sunderland interested in his services.
Sunderland will face competition from Italian Serie A outfit Napoli for the 26-year-old, according to this report.
