Premier League champions Chelsea are leading Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur in the race for the highly-rated Charlton Athletic striker Ademola Lookman, according to the Mirror

Could Charlton boss Karel Fraeye be without Ademola Lookman in the second half of the season?

The 18-year-old has netted three goals in seven games, including a brace in the 2-2 draw at home to Bolton Wanderers last week, since making his debut for the Addicks last month in the 1-0 defeat at MK Dons.

It appears that Chelsea are now leading the chase for the 18-year old forward Lookman, despite it seeming that Manuel Pellegrini's Manchester City were in pole position only last week.

However, City, and indeed Tottenham, are still thought to be keen on the youngster, yet it is the Blues who appear to be pushing hardest to try and get a deal done next month during the January transfer window.

Charlton, who are second from bottom in the table, are looking to offer Lookman a new deal to stay at the Valley, although the youngster could be persuaded by the bright lights and financial rewards that would come with a move to the Premier League.

However, his development could be significantly reduced because it would be unlikely that the starlet would feature in the first team picture. A loan deal back to Charlton may be something the Addicks' hierarchy will look for if a deal took place.

Lookman’s current contract ends in 2017 and could leave for free if he opts not to extend his deal.

However, with Charlton's precarious position at the lower reaches of the Championship, they may need Lookman to help them avoid relegation to League One.
