Premier League champions Chelsea could recall starlet Michael Hector from his loan spell at Reading, according to Get Reading.

Hector could be recalled by Chelsea

The 23-year-old signed for the Blues in a £4 million deal on transfer deadline day in the summer, and went straight back on loan to the Royals for the season, after impressing in the Championship last season.

The centre-half made a slow start to the season, and was kept out of the starting eleven by Anton Ferdinand, before the veteran defender picked up an injury.

His form has since soared and he's now re-established himself as one of the best defenders in the Championship, and Reading manager Steve Clarke is worried that this may catch the eye of a struggling Chelsea side.

Clarke told Get Reading: “It’s not something that I’ve discussed with anybody but I imagine that Chelsea would be able to recall him in the January window.

“It’s par for the course that any team who does a season long loan always has a recall in January.

“But I want Michael to stay for the full season which is something that Chelsea said they would allow us to do.”

Jose Mourinho's side have provided one of the shocks of the season, after starting so horrendously, with John Terry and Gary Cahill out of touch, he may take up the option of bringing Hector back to Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Steve Clarke's Reading sit in third place in the Sky Bet Championship, after an excellent start to their 2015/16 campaign.
