Wolves were potentially dealt a blow in their January striker hunt after Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe was adamant that Benik Afobe remained a big part of his plans. The DR Congo forward enjoyed a hugely successful spell at Molineux before moving to the South Coast and had been linked with a return.

Rumours were rife that Wolves made a late bid to bring the striker back on deadline day in August and recent reports suggested that the Black Country club could fight it out with local rivals West Brom for his signature in January. However, Howe was keen to dismiss the chances of that.

“He is a huge part of our plans. You always want your players to show the attitude that they want to achieve and I've got no problem with any player saying they want to play in any game. I would like to think every player is enjoying their time here,” Howe told the press, according to the Bournemouth Echo. The striker has been largely restricted to substitute appearances this season and was unused as Bournemouth went down to Spurs at Wembley on Saturday.

The Verdict

Wolves fans shouldn't be too worried by Howe's comments. With two months to go until the window opens, it would make little sense for the manager to say he doesn't want Afobe – because he can't go anywhere now. The Cherries might be in for a striker themselves in January and the money Afobe would raise could help them. But, there's plenty of time for the situation to change in the coming months, although, if Afobe is available he would make a great signing for Nuno Espirito Santo.
