According to the Reading Chronicle’s Courtney Friday, Newcastle United have entered the race to sign Nelson Oliveira from Norwich City.

The prolific Portuguese striker is in-demand this summer, after impressing for the Canaries in the Sky Bet Championship last season, scoring 11 goals and helping Norwich to an eighth-placed finish.

Oliveira has started the 2017/18 campaign in magnificent goalscoring form, bagging three goals in the Championship from just five appearances – impressing despite Norwich’s poor early season form.

The 26-year-old is in-demand on transfer deadline day, with Newcastle now reportedly entering the race to sign the Norwich man before tonight.

The Magpies are competing with Swansea City for Oliveira’s signature, but the Swans have already seen a £12m bid rejected by Norwich for the striker.

Reading are one Championship club keen to take Oliveira away from Carrow Road, but the Royals have so far made no progress in their quest to take the striker across the division.

Jaap Stam is looking for the final piece of his jigsaw at the Madejski Stadium, and having signed Sone Aluko earlier this week, his focus is now on brining another striker in.

Tomer Hemed is another player strongly linked with a move to Reading.

The Verdict

It is hardly surprising to see Oliveira in-demand this summer after the striker’s impressive form over the last year.

However, Norwich’s reluctance to sell the striker is understandable, with Daniel Farke’s striking options looking thin and the Canaries enduring a difficult start to the Championship season.

Despite only hours of the transfer window remaining, it would be no surprise to see Oliveira on the move, with Newcastle, Swansea and even Reading offering the striker a route out of Norwich.
