Further interest in Sunderland has emerged, with American investor Matthew Pauls keen on doing a deal for the League One club.

It's no secret that owner Stewart Donald is looking to bring fresh finances into the club, and reports had emerged earlier this month suggesting that Juan Sartori and Kyril Louis-Dreyfus had agreed terms to take over.

Whilst that remains the case, the Sunderland Echo have confirmed that Pauls' interest is genuine and that he has been in talks with Donald for some time.

The American businessman would be joined by a 'fellow Washington DC-based investor' if any deal went through. The update also adds that Donald would retain a shareholding in the club.

However, it should be stated that they believe Sartori and Louis-Dreyfus' bid is at a more advanced stage.
