Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes believes Graeme Shinnie can make a big impact at Derby County next season, much like John McGinn has done at Aston Villa this season.
The midfielder has signed a pre-contract agreement and will join the Rams on a three-year contract as free agent when his current deal at Aberdeen expires in a few weeks.
The 27-year-old has been an important player for Aberdeen over the past few seasons and has made 46 appearances for the club in all competitions this campaign.
McInnes has predicted that Shinnie will make an impact for Derby in the Championship next season, just as McGinn has done for Villa this campaign.
McGinn has been outstanding for Villa this season since joining from Hibernian on a four-year deal in the summer, scoring six goals and providing ten assists for his teammates in 40 Championship appearances, helping Dean Smith’s side cement their position in the play-offs.
McInnes is predicting that Shinnie can make a similar impact for Derby next season but admitted he is sad to see his captain depart the club.
“He has been flawless and absolutely fantastic for us. Although it has been with a heavy heart, it has been pretty inevitable for me and we have been preparing for it for a while,” McInnes told the Daily Record.
“I wish him well. I can’t see why he can’t go and impose himself in Derby’s team and dressing room like he’s done here. I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t go on and kick on like John McGinn and Kenny McLean have done.”
McLean joined Norwich City from Aberdeen last year and scored three goals in 20 league appearances for the Canaries this season, helping Daniel Farke’s side win the Championship title.
McGinn has been an excellent signing for Aston Villa in the Championship this season and if Shinnie can make a similar impact for Derby, he will be a superb signing for the Rams.
He has been an important player for Aberdeen over the last few seasons and is a big influence both on the pitch and the dressing room.
The midfielder could be an important player for the Rams next season.
