Millwall winger Jed Wallace has praised new manager Gary Rowett, saying his experience and success in the Championship with other clubs is a huge positive to bring to the Den.

Rowett took charge of his first Millwall game last weekend, and it ended in a positive fashion. A 2-0 win against Stoke City ensured that he had one over his previous club.

25-year-old Wallace put on a man-of-the-match display for his new manager, scoring emphatically from the spot, and assisting for Ben Thompson's opener. His goal takes his tally for the season to five, scoring three in his last four games for his club.

The result lifted Millwall to 15th in Championship table, six points clear of the Middlesbrough in the final relegation place in 22nd.

Wallace was asked about his thoughts on his new manager in a club interview, stating that Rowett can use his experience to ensure Millwall can maintain control against the opposition.

He told the club's official site: "With the new manager comes new ideas. Obviously, Neil left us in a great place with a young, enthusiastic dressing room, that wants to improve.

"The gaffer has done great jobs with big clubs at Championship level - he can use his experience to ensure we have more control in games at times, which in the first half last weekend we certainly showed. We bought ourselves more time on the ball and created more chances."

The Verdict

The signs against Stoke were positive for Rowett. Scoring two goals and keeping a clean sheet in his first game in charge is definitely a step in the right direction for Millwall.

Rowett's teams often drop deep to defend, eliminating the threat posed by the opposition in the penalty area. That was the basis of how Millwall kept the clean sheet.

He will want to stick to the basics at first to get results, analysing his players and choosing the best formation to play with the personnel at his disposal.
