Sheffield United could be priced out of a move for goalkeeper Jamal Blackman who enjoyed a fine season on loan with the Blades in the campaign just gone.

He joined the Yorkshire side 12 months ago and managed to see off competition from Simon Moore to establish himself as the number one at Bramall Lane. Whilst injuries did impact his season, Blackman did play 31 times last season.

Given that, manager Chris Wilder was looking to bring the Chelsea man in on a permanent basis, however his wage demands could be an issue.

That's according to journalist Alan Nixon who revealed that the 24-year old is earning over £20k a week with the London club which would be a very big wage for Sheffield United who have just completed their first season back in the second tier.

However, he does state that the Blades 'would love' to bring him back to the club and the player himself would surely relish the opportunity to play regularly given it's highly unlikely to get games at Stamford Bridge.

The Verdict

From a football perspective, signing Blackman would be great for the Blades as he has proven himself as a very decent keeper at this level.

However, his wages are clearly going to be a problem, particularly as Chelsea would also demand a reasonable fee for the stopper.

That could lead to a loan deal becoming the best option for all concerned. Either way, getting Blackman back to Bramall Lane has to be a priority for Wilder.
