Sunderland manager Jack Ross has admitted that he is uncertain whether talisman Josh Maja will be with the club beyond the January transfer window, according to reports from The Chronicle.

The 19-year old has been in sensational form for the Black Cats this term, and came off the bench on Saturday to rescue a point for Sunderland against Wycombe - his 11th goal in 20 games this season.

This impressive form has obviously attracted many potential suitors, with the Sunderland Echo reporting that Championship side Bristol City are interested in signing the forward, with the Mirror also reporting that Premier League giants Tottenham and Manchester City are both keeping tabs on the hot prospect.

Amid this speculation, Ross told the Chronicle: "There’s no update on Josh’s contract situation - as a manager I am invested in progressing the club as a whole".

“You have to think in the short-term as well, and I know that Josh will be a player with me until January as a minimum, and I would expect him to be here longer than that - although we can’t say that with certainty until everything has been resolved from a contractual point of view".

The Black Cats currently sit 2nd in League One, just two points off table-toppers Portsmouth.

The Verdict

This could be a massive, massive blow for Sunderland - Maja has been magnificent when leading the line for Ross' men this season. It's all down to Maja if he wants to stay.
