Championship strugglers Reading could be on the verge of sacking manager Jaap Stam, according to respected journalist Pete O’Rourke.
The Royals have endured a shocking season in the Sky Bet Championship, and currently sit just six points above the relegation places, and pressure is continuing to grow on their Dutch manager, who could well see himself out of a job if O’Rourke is correct.
Stam led Reading to the playoff final last season but saw his charges bested by Huddersfield on penalties. Many expected them to challenge once again this term, but they have put in a series of poor performances and have struggled at the lower end of the table for the majority of the campaign.
The Royals suffered another defeat yesterday at home to Millwall, in what could be the final straw for the Royals heirarchy and lead to Stam’s departure.
Stam joined the club following a successful spell working with Ajax and Jong Ajax as assistant and initially impressed in Berkshire. However the 45-year-old is in serious danger of losing his job before the club’s next fixture against Middlesbrough.
