Swansea City face a battle to keep hold of coach Cameron Toshack, with the 49-year-old attracting interest from Europe as well as in the Championship.

The Swans U23 chief, who is the son of Welsh icon John, has done a fine job over the past few years and has been credited with bringing through plenty of talented youngsters.

The likes of Oli McBurnie and Dan James excelled under his guidance before moving into the first-team whilst many of Steve Cooper's current group have worked with Toshack before.

Therefore, it's perhaps no surprise to see the Daily Mail claim that there is a lot of interest in the coach - who had been mentioned for the top job at the Liberty Stadium until Cooper was appointed.

They also state that Barnsley are considering him as a potential candidate to succeed Daniel Stendel, along with several Portuguese outfits who believe the style of play Toshack encourages would thrive on the continent.

So, it will be interesting to see how this plays out, although the focus for the Swans right now is on their huge derby against Cardiff this afternoon.

The verdict

This is slightly worrying news for Swansea as they have placed a real emphasis on bringing players through the academy in the past few years and Toshack is integral to that.

So, they won't want to lose him but it's obviously going to be tough to do that if he is offered a head coach role elsewhere.

However, he has a close affinity to the club so it's not a guarantee he will leave and you would expect this story to develop in the coming weeks if his interest is genuine.
