Middlesbrough winger Adama Traore has suffered a dislocated shoulder, putting his potential move to Premier League Wolves in serious doubt.

The speedy Spaniard was reported to be on the verge of joining Wanderers for around £18m, so it was something of a surprise when he was named in the starting XI for Boro's friendly against Sunderland last night.

The game was eventually abandoned due to the weather but Traore had to be replaced in the first-half after a collision with Glenn Loovens that left the former Barcelona man in real pain.

Speaking to Teesside Live, manager Tony Pulis confirmed the extent of the 22-year old's injury.

"His shoulder popped out. We're not sure how bad it is but we've taken him to hospital as a precaution to make sure that if he needs to have anything done, it gets done straight away."

After adding that he doesn't expect Traore to be out for too long, the experienced boss also gave an update on his transfer situation.

"I think everybody knows he has a clause in his contract and if that money is reached it's almost taken out of the club's hands," before insisting no club has met that clause yet.

The Verdict

This could have serious ramifications in the transfer market depending on the severity of the injury.

Boro will have been monitoring replacements for Traore and Wolves were thought to be close to signing him but they may now wait until January.

Ultimately, that's probably a great result for Boro but all will be revealed in the coming days once he has been properly assessed.
