Derby boss Frank Lampard arrived at the Championship club with a huge weight on his shoulders with the Rams being the first managerial job of his career.

The former Chelsea legend will certainly be pleased with the progress that his side have made in recent weeks, and they remain well in the hunt for a return to the Premier League.

Derby are currently occupying the last play-off position and they will be keen to hold on to that when they return to action after the international break.

However, Lampard will be concerned about the growing injury list that could prove to be the difference between staying in the Championship and promotion to the top-flight.

But, with a busy festive period coming up, could Lampard be tempted to dip into the transfer market in order to strengthen his squad?

We look at the potential upgrades that could prove to give Derby the edge in their promotion battle this season.

Find out who they are here....

With Craig Forsyth ruled out for the majority of the season, it leaves Lampard with a lack of depth at left-back.

Targett was on loan at Fulham last season and hugely impressed in his time with the promotion winners.

He has only made one league start for Southampton this season and he will be looking for regular game time to further his development.

The Wolves forward is yet to make a league start for the Premier League side.

He has fallen down the pecking order and is likely to consider a loan move away from last season's champions.

Bonatini netted 12 goals in the Championship last season and was a crucial reason as to why Wolves won promotion to the Premier League.

He would definitely challenge the likes of David Nugent and Jack Marriott for a starting spot.

The Chelsea attacking-midfielder is yet to make a competitive appearance for the Blues this season and is surely going to be looking for a loan move in January.

Piazon was on loan at promotion winning Fulham last season, playing a crucial part.

The Brazilian has the experience of playing in the Championship, and if he can stay injury-free then he would be an excellent player to call upon in the attacking midfield area.
