Sunderland transfer target Charlie Wyke is set to begin light training next week, following a knee injury sustained in preseason, would could prompt a third bid from the Black Cats.

According to the Chronicle Live, the Bradford City striker, who has been subject to mass transfer speculation this summer, will begin light training ahead of the upcoming season.

Sunderland have submitted two bids for the 25-year-old to date, both of which were rejected.

The Bantams are open to selling their star forward, but would need the price to be right to do so.

While it is believed that the English forward will not be fit for the opening day of the season, that hasn’t stopped interest mounting in Wyke, who scored 12 goals in his 23 League One appearances last season.

Sunderland unveiled the loan signing of Watford striker Jerome Sinclair earlier this week, but they are still interested in bringing in Wyke also.

The Verdict

Charlie Wyke has been subject to a lot of transfer speculation throughout this entire summer’s transfer window.

Despite his injury and the recent addition of Sinclair, it seems that Sunderland will still go after Wyke; a decision that if pulled off will be a terrific signing.

Wyke knows how to find the back of the net, which is something that the Black Cats have been calling out for, for a long time.
