QPR have hit one of their best runs of form yet this campaign and after the 5-1 thrashing of Rotherham United this weekend, you can bet few will be relishing a trip to Loftus Road this season.

You can only imagine if Ian Holloway had taken over earlier in the campaign, they might have been able to make a late push for the promotion places but with that seemingly out of reach this time around, mid-table safety is probably about as good as it will get.

But with things showing a real sign of improvement over the past couple of weeks, just how good could it get for Holloway and his side next season?

He's got the whole summer to work on improving his squad and as we saw with his January additions, they've made a huge impact so we're expecting more of the same this time around too.

So with the buzz around the club increasingly and fan optimism at it's highest in years, here's 3 reasons QPR could mix it with the big boys at the top of the division next season...

Holloway has done the whole promotion business before

If they wanted an experienced hand who has real knowledge of doing this journey in the past, then opting for Ian Holloway was a cracking idea by the QPR board.

Most recently, he's overseen Blackpool's promotion from the Championship into the Premier League against all the odds and there's little reason why he couldn't do that again with a far more established QPR XI.

After a summer overhaul, he has some excellent players at his disposal

As with any outfit at this level, it's easy to entrust in below-par players who are there to simply "do a job for the side".

After the financial nightmare of Tony Fernandes' early days at the helm of the club, QPR were forced to heavily cut back and it's reflected in some of the players currently on the books at Loftus Road.

But if Holloway can really cut this slack out and get some decent investment this summer, there's some real talent lying in this side which could really help with a potential play-off push.

Holloway's January additions have looked class

QPR have won five of their last seven games and the signings that came in during January have been a massive part of that.

In particularly, former Bristol City winger Luke Freeman, who has added a real dimension of pace and power on the wing, has helped a QPR side that had lacked a little bit of attacking fluidity at times this season.

Matt Smith has looked a decent investment too- all promising signs that Holloway will continue to add the right players this summer and potentially build a side capable of mixing it at the top of the division next season.
