Plymouth Argyle boss Steven Schumacher has revealed there are currently no plans in place for Morgan Whittaker to return to parent club Swansea City this month, speaking to BBC Radio Devon.

The 21-year-old has been a crucial asset for the Pilgrims this term, recording nine goals and seven assists in 25 league appearances, proving his worth once again yesterday afternoon as he recorded a goal and two assists.

This played a crucial role in their 3-1 victory against MK Dons - a victory that has kept them in a strong position at the top of the League One table - boosting Schumacher's side's chances of winning promotion in the process.

However, uncertainty was created regarding his future when it was revealed that promotion rivals Ipswich Town were interested in taking him to Portman Road for the second half of the season, with the Swans having the option to recall him.

The Tractor Boys may be able to offer the Swans a more attractive financial package than the Pilgrims based on the club's signings in recent years.

However, Schumacher has revealed there are currently no plans in place for his parent club to bring him back to South Wales.

He said: "At the moment there isn't a plan in place to take him back.

"The clause is in the contract for both ways, we'll just see how that develops.

"I don't know what the window is that they've got to bring him back, but at the moment we've got no indication to say that he's going to go back, which is great."

The Verdict:

This could be a real game-changer in the promotion race - not necessarily in terms of Ipswich who look set to be in the top six regardless of whether they can get a deal for Whittaker over the line or not.

For Plymouth though, his presence could be massive because their attack will probably be crucial to their success with the likes of Whittaker, Ryan Hardie, Finn Azaz and Niall Ennis all likely to be big contributors for the Pilgrims between now and the end of the season.

With Azaz still recovering from a broken ankle though, Whittaker has become even more important for Schumacher's men and they will need to keep hold of him to give themselves the best chance of remaining in the automatic promotion spots.

They would definitely take a top-six finish at this stage after missing out last season - but securing a top-two finish would allow them to avoid potential heartbreak in the play-offs and thankfully for them - they look the real deal at this stage.

And looking at this situation from Swansea's perspective, he's currently thriving at Home Park so they shouldn't be looking to recall him at this point unless he's going to play a crucial role for them in the short term.
