Nathan Ferguson's proposed move from West Bromwich Albion to Crystal Palace has hit a stumbling block due to concerns over the player's fitness levels, as per The Athletic.

The young full-back had a medical at Selhurst Park on Wednesday afternoon, putting the final touches to his move to Crystal Palace in a deal which could rise to £10m.

The 19-year-old is out-of-contract at the Hawthorns at the end of the season, and as there has been no movement on the new deal Albion have offered him, a departure looks very likely.

But now, as per The Athletic's live transfer blog, Crystal Palace correspondent Dominic Fifield has revealed that "complications" have emerged in Palace's attempts to finalise a deal.

Fifield claims that the Eagles have concerns over the player's fitness levels, which became evident after undergoing a medical on Wednesday afternoon.

He said: "Nathan Ferguson's arrival from West Bromwich Albion has been delayed over a fitness issue, but the club is deciding this morning whether to push on with the deal regardless given the teenager's clear potential.

"The player had travelled down to London on Wednesday and undertook a medical, bbut was back at West Brom's training ground yesterday waiting to hear how Palace would proceed."

The Baggies are expected to be active in the latter stages of the window, with Hull City winger Kamil Grosicki set to arrive at the Hawthorns.

The Verdict

This is a rather bizarre update, and maybe, just maybe, West Brom might be able to hold onto their talented youngster for a little bit longer.

It doesn't look like Ferguson will sign a new deal right now and he seemingly has his heart set on a move to Premier League Palace.

But if this deal stalls and West Brom keep hold of Ferguson and win promotion, then his thinking may well change in the summer if Albion reach the top-flight.

It will be very interesting to see how this move develops now.
