Derby County's potential takeover took a huge step forward after Chris Kirchner issued an updated on the progress of the deal.

The US investor revealed that this coming week will see all of the work he and the have done behind the scenes "come together" as he seeks to buy the Championship club.

Kirchner was named as preferred bidder by administrators Quantuma with the club being in administration since September.

With Kirchner's preferred bidder status expected to end on May 7, he will be hoping that his deal for the club can reach it's closing stages in the coming week.

In congratulating the team on their win over Blackpool on Saturday, Kirchner took to Twitter to update supporters on his bid for the club, saying: "No major updates this weekend, but this week will see everything my team and I have been working hard on come together."

The prospective owner did say that there would not be any major update but later suggested next week could bring huge news for the club.

The Verdict

It's the biggest hint yet that the takeover for Derby could be concluded this week.

Conversations with Rooney have been going on behind the scenes meaning plans for next season are in place, once again dropping hints that a takeover for the club is close.

However, Rooney has been in this position before so most supporters and staff will take the news with a pinch of salt.

Nonetheless, it's huge news for the club and supporters who have endured a difficult season to say the least and will be hoping they can end this season on a high with a win and the clubs long-term future secured.
