Cardiff City have not made an approach to sign striker Famara Diedhiou from Bristol City contrary to reports elsewhere, Wales Online have revealed.

Earlier this week it was reported by Get French Football News that the Bluebirds, along with Huddersfield Town were in negotiations over a move for the striker.

It was also claimed that West Brom, as well a number of Turkish sides, were interested in the striker, although it now appears that a move away from Ashton Gate is unlikely to happen in the current transfer window.

According to the latest reports, sources close to the striker have claimed that Diedhiou has returned to pre-season training with Bristol City, and is happy at the club.

Since joining from French side Angers in the summer of 2017, Diedhiou has scored 27 goals in 80 appearances in all competitions for the Robins.

There are still two years remaining on Diedhiou's contract at Ashton Gate, meaning Bristol City should be in a strong position to negotiate should any offers for the 26-year-old be made.

The verdict

This feels like good news for Bristol City.

Diedhiou has established himself as a solid and reliable option for the Robins up front during his time at the club, so it unlikely they will have wanted to lose him this summer, not least to a side they will want to be challenging for promotion next season such as Cardiff or Huddersfield.

Having had an impressive start to the window in terms of incomings, managing not to lose players such as Diedhiou will now further increase the confidence around what they may be able to achieve heading into next season.

That, however, will do little to help the likes of Cardiff, Huddersfield and West Brom, who are going to have to find attacking reinforcements from somewhere if they want to really push for promotion in the coming campaign.
