Bristol City managerial target Chris Hughton is interested in the vacant role at Watford, according to Herts Live.

Watford were relegated to the Premier League on Sunday, after caretaker boss Hayden Mullins failed to pull off a miracle and keep the Hornets up, following a 3-2 defeat to Arsenal on the final day of the season.

The Hornets will now look to appoint a new manager following their relegation to the Sky Bet Championship, having recently parted company with Nigel Pearson - a decision that surprised many fans.

The ultimate Bristol City end of season quiz – Can you get 14/14?

According to Herts Live, though, former Brighton and Newcastle boss Chris Hughton is interested in taking over at Vicarage Road, despite being heavily linked with the role at Ashton Gate.

Hughton is believed to have had an interview with Bristol City, with some media outlets even claiming that the 61-year-old has agreed to take over following the dismissal of Lee Johnson.

It remains to be seen when City do make an announcement regarding their new manager, with the club on the lookout for a Johnson replacement, after seeing their top-six hopes diminish under the 39-year-old.

The Verdict

This is an interesting piece of news, and it will be interesting to see whether Hughton does remain patient with City and still remains fully interested in the job.

The job at Watford is likely to be an attractive one. They have some excellent players there and are likely to have a big budget ready and waiting for a new manager, as they look to get back into the Premier League.

City fans will be praying that they can appoint Hughton before anything else major happens, as he could be the man to guide them into the Premier League.
