Carlo Ancelotti is eyeing a reunion with Paul Clement should he land the soon-to-be-vacant managerial role at Napoli.

According to the Mirror’s live blog (15/05, 11:05), Ancelotti is being lined up as Maurizio Sarri’s replacement at Napoli, with the Italian set to leave the club this summer.

Ancelotti, 58, is amongst the front runners to takeover in Naples, and could look to reunite with Clement, who is currently managing Sky Bet Championship club, Reading.

Clement worked with Ancelotti at Chelsea, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and PSG, prior to him taking the leading role at Swansea City.

Since then Clement has departed and taken over from Jaap Stam at Reading.

Clement was appointed at Reading in late March, with the task of guiding the Royals to safety after a worrying year under Stam in the Championship.

The 46-year-old delivered, eventually guiding the Royals to 20th in the Championship table and three points clear of the bottom three.

Clement recorded two victories from his eight in-charge towards the end of the 2017/18 campaign, picking up a further two draws as Reading battled to safety.

The Verdict

Clement and Ancelotti have a good history of working together, so it is little surprise to learn that the Italian is keen on a reunion, should he take the Napoli job.

Reading’s supporters will be worried about Clement’s potential departure ahead of a key summer for the club.

Clement’s results at the Madejski were far from impressive, but Reading don’t want to be in a position where they are searching for their third manager in a matter of months.
