Aston Villa will have to wait a little while longer before welcoming back Scott Hogan, with Steve Bruce revealing the striker still needs one or two weeks before he can return to action.

Hogan is yet to feature for Villa this season due to injury, with Bruce deprived of the striker who he paid £12m to sign back in January 2017.

However, the Irishman has been back in training for almost two weeks now, with the striker edging ever closer to a return to action.

Bruce has provided an update on Hogan ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Blackburn Rovers. He told Villa’s official website: “With Scott, he probably needs another week or two. He’s had a serious injury. He has trained for the last 10-12 days. He will be there or thereabouts shortly, for sure.”

So far this season Bruce has put his faith in Jonathan Kodjia to lead the line, with the Ivorian returning three goals in his six Championship appearances, including a brace against Brentford.

Keinan Davis has joined Hogan on the sidelines up until now, but Bruce’s options are set to improve in the coming weeks.

Whilst Davis is still a distance away from returning, Hogan will be back before long, with Bruce’s deadline day signing, Tammy Abraham, set to debut tomorrow evening at Ewood Park.

The Verdict

Hogan has never been prolific at Villa, but his return will be another welcome boost for Steve Bruce.

So far this season Villa have looked short in attack, with a lot of pressure on Kodjia to deliver.

With Abraham back, and Hogan almost fully fit, we could see a big improvement in Villa’s results.
