Barry Douglas has resumed training with Leeds United’s first team.

According to Yorkshire Evening Post journalists Phil Hay and Joe Urquhart, the Scotland international is back in training after missing the last two matches with injury.

Leeds have not won since the left-back has been sidelined and this news will be a welcome boost for the club’s fans.

Speaking on the Inside Elland Road podcast, the pair confirmed Douglas was back in the mix but remains doubtful for Wednesday’s clash with struggling Ipswich.

With the midweek round of games coming too soon for the 29-year-old, Saturday’s home match against Nottingham Forest could be the most likely scenario to see him return to the starting XI.

An update on the fitness of Jack Harrison has also been revealed by the YEP duo.

The Manchester City winger missed the defeat to Blackburn at the weekend and is said to be suffering from a muscular problem.

The 21-year-old, like Douglas, is likely to return in time for the clash with Forest at the weekend.

The Verdict

This is fantastic news for Leeds fans after their recent slump in form.

Barry Douglas has been a considerable miss down the left and Jack Harrison had been a great deputy to Pablo Hernandez while he was out injured.

While it is likely Harrison will revert to the bench with the Spaniard now fit again, Douglas will command the left-back role when he is called upon again.

Marcelo Bielsa has had to deal with a poor run of form that coincided with a spate of injuries that rocked his organised and consistent team selection.

With the injuries looking to be cleared up, the Leeds side seen at the start of the season could well be making a comeback in the next few weeks.
