Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka will not be joining up with former boss Jose Mourinho to be his number two at Manchester United.

The Portuguese coach is on the lookout for a new coach to add to his backroom team after it was announced that Rui Faria would be leaving the club in the summer.

And, speculation started to build that it could be Karanka after Mourinho revealed he would be bringing in someone who he has worked with before. The Forest boss was Mourinho's assistant for three years at Real Madrid from 2010.

However, the Nottingham Post has revealed that Karanka isn't the man Mourinho is referring to.

The former Middlesbrough boss has only been in charge at the City Ground since January and it's fair to say he hasn't had the best of starts with the form inconsistent and issues in front of goal.

However, in fairness to Karanka the focus has always been about next season and there is a sense of optimism around the club that he will be able to build a side capable of competing for promotion.

The Verdict

Losing Karanka would be a bitter blow for Forest as he is set to make big changes at the club this summer and has the support of everyone.

Thankfully for the Championship side that doesn't look like it will happen and it would've been a surprise to see go back to working as a number two.

Now, the focus will be on finding the right players to help the current squad.
