Positive update for Aston Villa ahead of preparations for next season

Steve Bruce is happy to stay on at Aston Villa after receiving assurances over the budget and future of the club after crunch talks with key figures yesterday.

The Express & Star report that whilst Bruce didn’t attend the meeting, he was given an update from director of football Steve Round and the Villa boss was pleased with what he heard.

That means Bruce is confident he will be able to put out a side that can be very competitive in the Championship as Villa look to win promotion that eluded them last month.

As well as that, the report states that Villa may even try to keep hold of star man Jack Grealish. The talented midfielder is easily the most valuable player in the squad and is attracting interest from several Premier League sides.

Villa’s financial troubles have been well-documented, with HMRC serving the club with a winding-up order last week after an unpaid tax bill, whilst CEO Keith Wyness has left the club following the fallout.

However, despite Bruce’s desire to stay, he still hasn’t had any public backing from owner Tony Xia.

The Verdict

Whether or not Bruce wanting to stay is positive news for Villa is debatable but the fact the club feel they can compete is obviously great news for fans.

Xia has to get everything in order off the pitch as soon as possible and then deliver an update for Bruce and how he plans to move the club forward.

There will still be major cuts at Villa Park and Xia may see Bruce as the ideal man to work under these conditions given his experience in the game.
