Daniel Pudil is back for Sheffield Wednesday after picking up a knock which ruled him out of the Sunderland game.

The Czech defender has excelled as the left-sided centre-back in a back three after struggling in the left-back role under Carlos Carvalhal who preferred to use a back four.

His understanding of the left-back position enables him to effectively cover the space vacated by the left wing-back, while at the same time he isn't caught out by his lack of pace.

At 32-years-old, he is past his peak and his contract runs out at the end of the season, so he will be aiming to use the remaining games to try and get a contract extension.

The Verdict

Pudil has found a new lease of life in a different position, so he deserves a contract extension for at least a year especially if he performs well in the remaining games.

At the very least, he can provide back-up for the other centre-backs as well as helping Jordan Thorniley's transition into the first-team.

The upcoming game against Fulham will be a tough task, though, because they are one of the best attacking sides in the Championship, so he will have his work cut out in trying to stop their front three.
