Hull City yesterday announced the news that Leonid Slutsky had left the club by mutual consent with the Tigers just three points ahead of the relegation zone.

The ex-CSKA Moscow boss was under severe pressure following a 3-2 defeat at home to Bristol City last weekend, where Hull had led 2-0 in the second half. And, despite a reasonably positive draw at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, Slutsky and the board agreed on his departure.

With the season reaching a critical point, it seems the board are looking to act fast and the Hull Daily Mail are reporting that the new manager is likely to be named before the Brentford game this Saturday.

There are several names linked with the job and the same report states that Championship experience is going to be considered a must for the role.

Nigel Adkins, who won promotion from the division with Southampton, is the current favourite with the bookmakers, whilst Paul Lambert is another who is in the frame. The Scotsman has been out of work since leaving Wolves in the summer.

The Verdict

Hull fans will be glad that an appointment seems imminent as this doesn't need to be dragged out, however they're unlikley to have much faith in the board when it comes to picking the right man.

Nigel Adkins is the clear favourite and he isn't exactly an inspiring choice given how his last two jobs have gone.

Although, the bigger problems at Hull still seem to be off the pitch and until that's rectified it's hard to envisage things getting much better. Whoever the new man is will have a big job on their hands.
