Birmingham City midfielder Ivan Sunjic has won Sky Bet Championship Goal of the Month award for September for his spectacular long-range strike against Derby County.

Sunjic has been a key player for Birmingham since joining from Dinamo Zagreb in the summer and he scored his first goal for the Blues in the 3-2 defeat at Derby County last month.

With Birmingham trailing 2-1 at the time, the Croatian scored a unleashed a 20-yard shot that flew into the top corner to pull the Blues level in a five-goal thriller at Pride Park.

The goal has now been voted at the best goal in the Championship in the month of September, after receiving 55 per cent of the public vote - beating off competition from Fulham's Tom Cairney and Hull City's Kamil Grosicki.

Sunjic has been one of the standout performers for Birmingham this season and is already a fans' favourite at St Andrew's. The defensive midfielder has been an extremely important player for the Blues, playing every game in the Championship.

The Verdict

I'm sure Sunjic will be delighted with his goal and to win the award, although he'll probably be slightly disappointed that Birmingham didn't go on to win the game. It was a fantastic strike though and deserved to win.

Sunjic is a very talented player and he's looking like he could be a great signing for Birmingham. His performances so far this season have been very impressive and he provides the Blues with more intensity in midfield.

The Croatian will be really pleased to have scored his first goal for the club and Blues fans will hope that it is the first of many this season.
