Derby County are having a good season at the moment and 2018 could be the year where they return to the Premier League.

Rams fans will feel it has been too long since they were last in the top flight of English football for a club of their stature but this year they are on course to end their hiatus.

Certainly, Gary Rowett has worked well so far this season and assembled a great side full of experience and Premier League capable talent.

They'll be looking to continue the good feeling tonight in the Championship, then, against Bristol City but today has already proven a pretty decent one at the club.

Indeed, they have just confirmed that George Thorne has signed a new deal to keep him at the club until 2020:

George Thorne is just of the handful of good midfielders that the club has at the moment and it looks as though the plan is to keep him in the club's colours for the next few seasons at least.

Let's see, then, if that involves him playing Premier League football from next season, too.

The Verdict

This is good news for Derby.

Thorne is a very talented midfielder and keeping him at the club over the next season should tie in with an upbeat period at the club.
