News of Kemar Roofe’s injury has handed Leeds United a major setback, but the Whites hope the forward will return in weeks rather than months and there’s a possibility he could be back before April.

Leeds confirmed today that a knee ligament injury would leave Roofe on the sidelines for a spell, but the club didn’t put a timescale on that.

Now, David Anderson from the Mirror has provided some details, stating that Leeds hope it’ll be weeks rather than months, with a hope that the 26-year-old will be able to return by the end of next month.

Roofe has scored 14 goals for Leeds this season and is the club’s top goalscorer, having established himself as Marcelo Bielsa’s first choice striker ahead of Patrick Bamford.

However, Roofe hasn’t found the back of the net in his last five appearances, whilst he’s scored only once in his last eight.

That strike came in Leeds’ 2-0 victory over Derby County in January, with Bamford returning to side to lead the line in recent weeks.

Bielsa had moved Roofe to an attacking midfield position, for the draw with Middlesbrough and victory over Swansea, but now the forward will be absent when Leeds welcome Bolton to Elland Road on Saturday.

The Verdict

Whilst this is still a blow for Leeds, if they can get Roofe back for April and May, it’ll be a huge boost.

Roofe can make a massive difference to the promotion-chasing Whites, particularly at the business end of the season.

For now, it is just about the Whites staying in contention without a key player.
