Angus Kinnear has talked up the positivity surrounding the Leeds United squad this week, upon Marcelo Bielsa’s side’s return to Thorp Arch ahead of the season’s resume.

Leeds have seen the season placed on hold for almost three months now, but significant steps have been taken towards a restart, which will be music to the ears of Bielsa’s squad, who are itching to get going again.

This week, we’ve seen a number of images of the club’s first-team squad returning to Thorp Arch and although they are left adhering to social distancing rules, they’ve been enjoying themselves.

Quiz: Have Leeds United done these 15 things in the last 10 years? – Yes or no?

That was the message relayed by Angus Kinnear in his notes with the Yorkshire Evening Post: “From a Leeds United perspective, this week’s return to small group training was a significant step forward in our endeavours to complete business on the pitch.

“The mood at Thorp Arch was typically buoyant and whilst the protocols were seriously adhered to, the players were clearly relaxed and feeling confident that they are operating in the safest environment possible.”

When things can start up again in the Championship, Leeds are looking to convert a table-topping position into promotion in the remaining nine games of the season.

Leeds haven’t competed in the Premier League since the 2003/04 season, but they are on course to get back to the big time if they can hold their nerve in the run-in.

Bielsa’s side sit top of the pile, a point clear of West Brom in second. However, more importantly, there’s a gap of seven points between the Whites and Fulham, who in third, hold the biggest threat to the top-two.

The Verdict

This is great to read for fans of the club.

There will have been concerns that some of Bielsa’s players might not have wanted to get back into training given everything going on in the world right now, but everyone appears motivated and ready to pull in the same direction.

We’ve seen from pictures on Twitter and Instagram that Leeds are delighted to be back in the building, with a big focus on finishing the job they’ve started in the 37 games gone by.

This week has been a big week and there's finally light at the end of the tunnel in terms of project restart.
